HHS 2020-2021 School Year Page is a Wrap

 NEW PAGE  HHS 2022.

We close out another school year. This year was a doozy!  We were virtual for the first 3 quarters of the school year using Google Meet. The Coronavirus peaked in Jan 2021. HHS opened school during the 4th quarter (March) for in-person learning. The turnout was low..24/166 students showed up in person, and the remainder continued online.  Beginning this June 2021 the UUSD will be back to in-person learning only,

Table added  2023

This school year brought us, two new teachers. Science teacher Ashley Beyer and English teacher Megan Cazarez!

This school year we say goodbye to Mrs. Boswell and Mr. Waldowski as they announced their retirements. Both retired at the end of the year in June!

We had a long-term substitute teacher Mr. Stephen Miller teaching art for Mrs. Garcia, who had her first child.

It was a challenging year for teaching, but the HHS staff remained strong, resilient, and a family!

We look forward to being back on the HHS campus for the 2021-2022 school year!

COVID still lingering in the World, but the Upland USD  will open up fully on June 13th. for in-person teaching. School instruction to students for the first three quarters this year was all presented virtually. The district opened up to optional in-person teaching beginning in the fourth quarter of the school year at HHS. The start date varied for different schools and grades. Cases of COVID peaked on January 8 in America at a peak of approx. 301,000 new daily cases. In California, over 63,000 deaths were attributed to COVID. The state of CA will officially open all businesses 100% on June 15. COVID-19 is caused by a coronavirus called SARS-CoV-2. Older adults and people who have severe underlying medical conditions like heart or lung disease or diabetes seem to be at higher risk for developing more serious complications from COVID-19 illness.

New Chicks Hatch

I placed a group of eggs in the incubator in hopes of capturing some of the BCM rooster genes of the four roosters I culled to one of the HHS maintenance crew members. I placed approx. 14 eggs in the incubator.

The eggs began hatching on Saturday, June 5th, with the last egg hatching on June 10 on the 25th day of being in the incubator. A total of 11 eggs hatched! We lost the two brown egg chicks when they were placed in a hen box with a broody hen.

1 blue, 2 gray, 2 brown, 3 olive, 3 chocolate.

The Valencia Chicks were hatched in April. They have been out with the big guys for the past week. We currently have 1 white, 2 brownish orange, 2 black.

Friday Tiny Trailer Update. Vertical Trim Pieces Installation Complete

With the pandemic, the tiny trailer project was placed on hold due to a lack of students on campus and in person.  The district allowed students to return to campus during the fourth quarter of the school year.  I changed my class schedule for this to allow construction in the AM on T, W, & TH's with the PM for students who chose to remain online only. I roughly had on average 5 students in each of the in-person classes from week three through this post in week nine of the quarter. Over the time period, the students spent the first three weeks working on the garden, since no work had been done on that since covid began. In the garden, the students created 9 new raised garden planters, reworked the irrigation to the planters, and installed control valves at each planter. Once we finished the garden area the students then moved on to the tiny home. The goal for the quarter was to complete the installation of the exterior siding before the end of the school year. The group of students I had were motivated and did an outstanding job staying on task to complete the objective. Today the students completed the installation of the vertical trim pieces on the exterior of the building. The last thing that needs to be done before summer vacation sets in is to complete the horizontal trim pieces at the plywood butt joints.
