Marans EGGS picked up and Placed in Incubator!

I am pretty excited, on Saturday morning I met this guy in a Mcdonald's parking lot in front of Magic Mountain and purchased a dozen Maran chicken eggs. He threw in three olive egger eggs and a gray egg that he also had. So what makes these eggs special is that they are chocolate brown. The seller claimed that the hen and the rooster are Copper Marans. This breed of chicken lays the darkest brown eggs of any chickens. The only problem is to check and now have to incubate the eggs for 20 days. On day five or six I will candle the eggs to make sure that they are fertile, to begin with. The eggs will be kept at 100 degrees and approx. 65 percent humidity in an incubator. The eggs were placed in the incubator on 10/24, the effs should hatch on Nov 13th.

Things we can do with the eggs in the future! If these eggs do have the dark brown gene we can then cross the hen/rooster with a blue laying hen/rooster and get the green color.

Three reason Winter is of concern with the virus

1. Coronavirus - tends to increase in the fall/winter

2. Winter air is less humid, the virus would tend to stay airborne

3. People tend to spend more time inside buildings - statistically speaking its more likely to be infected inside a building than outside, that is why many restaurants are open for business with outdoor seating only.

La Niña is a coupled ocean-atmosphere phenomenon that is the colder counterpart of El Niño, as part of the broader El Niño–Southern Oscillation climate pattern. The name La Niña originates from Spanish, meaning "the girl", analogous to El Niño meaning "the boy"

La Niña is characterized by unusually cold ocean temperatures in the Equatorial Pacific, compared to El Niño, which is characterized by unusually warm ocean temperatures in the Equatorial Pacific. La Niña Impact on the Global Climate

In the U.S., winter temperatures are warmer than normal in the Southeast, and cooler than normal in the Northwest. Global climate La Niña impacts tend to be opposite those of El Niño impacts. In the tropics, ocean temperature variations in La Niña tend to be opposite those of El Niño.
